Lawmakers step up pressure on Bush for border agents’ clemency

As they leave office, it's a long-standing tradition for presidents to offer clemency. Lawmakers from both parties have formally pressed President Bush to commute the sentences of former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, serving 11 and 12 year sentences for shooting a drug smuggler in the backside as he fled the scene.

'It's frustrating. Scooter Libby was pardoned before he even goes to jail,' said Rep. Ted Poe, R-Humble, a former judge. 'These two guys are political prisoners.'

Rep. William Delahunt, a Massachusetts liberal, is leading the bipartisan push for clemency with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California conservative.

If Bush fails to act in the next nine weeks, advocates may have an ace in the hole. President-elect Barack Obama's White House chief of staff, Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., co-sponsored a resolution calling for clemency for the two former agents last December.

Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston, 'I can't think of a better way for Bush to restore political capital, with one stroke.'

T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council – the agents union – called it past time for the president to redress the 'terrible injustice.' 'The effect on morale has already been devastating. You have agents out there wondering what the rules of the game are,' he said.

I to believe that President Bush's refusal to pardon Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean is the most unconscionable act of disloyalty he has perpetrated upon those who are sworn to protect this country's well-being. I know this feeling is shared by many other patriotic Americans/Texans. Signed, William Blanton from Buda,Texas

What pray tell do you think should happen to Aldrete-Davila ?

YOUSUCK...the double threat; a tool and a tard, all in one. Dude, Rott is not a word. Rot is spelled with one "t" you illiterate turd. Throw some periods in there once in a while, as well. Maybe the change Obama will bring is giving you a 5th grade education, with a wonderful socialist educational grant. I'll bet you sit around all night, perusing web sites with human interest stories to write inflammatory crap to get under people's skin. Big tough guy. Don't pat yourself on the back in my case; I'm gonna grab a beer and forget about you. Just stating the obvious.

This is such a disgrace. Not only has our President dropped the ball, but the media has buried this tragic story.

My prayers are with their families. I can't understand why Bush won't pardon these two men.

Though 'yousuck' is extremely inappropriate, so are the rest of you.

It's horrifying to know there are checks and balances in government, intricacies in the legal system, this is a complicated issue, yet we see the President being smeared as if he's the ultimate bad guy, and there are even threats against him. What a hypocritical disregard for the rule of law and being appropriate.

Let's not allow our preference, a desire to make needful corrections, and difficult situations, to keep any of us from being appropriate.

The punishment may not fit the crime, there might be many other problems. There are even plausible theories. The thing is, it doesn't seem to be a significant concern that trusted agents didn't make appropriate reports of their activities. Perhaps, as has been stated, an honest report would have produced problems for the agents from the beginning. It's extremely probable that the "problems" would have been much less severe then what they now contend with. Perhaps at worst they would now be free to pursue another line of work.

This case has been perfect for unreasoned exploitation on all sides. One side is fed up with the immigration problem, the other wants to allow it to continue and grow. The winner seems to be the side that wants to bash Bush and the Republicans. It's not all his fault that we have a Democrat controlled Congress and Republicans who over compromise to try to get something done, to name just a part of the problem.

I'm firmly for controlling the illegal immigration. It doesn't help this by seeing everything through this specific prism alone. All this has done is to give a bad name to our efforts in border security and have both sides bashing Bush.

I don't have a special and exact answer to this case, other then to be willing to look at everything. It's very strange when the results amount to joining the other side in a 'bash Bush' campaign, which is the main focus that we've seen since 2000, which involves emotional manipulation and has worked.

Let's be sceptical and diligent about everything, not just a single issue, and remain objective.

One thing that seems like a conflict of interest is the amount of Border Agents who have very close relatives on the other side. This seems to be a conflict of interests that should be better addressed.

Ramos and Compean remain in my prayers.

maidintheus said "Though 'yousuck' is extremely inappropriate, so are the rest of you."

REALLY ? Since when did it become "inappropriate" to voice an opinion.

Inappropriate would be a very mild description when speaking of president Bush's arrogant refusal to see this injustice for what it is.

Quote from Alipac todays email:

"In the past, when a leader or political faction attempted to rule the world, it was America and Americans who stopped them. That is why we are being targeted, downgraded, and enslaved.

Americans are more of a threat to the Globalists than any other population on earth.

To the arrogant elitist Globalists, we Americans are a bunch of ignorant and uppity peasants who cling to our "guns and religion" and have no business tampering with their aristocratic designs." END QUOTE

As to the above all of us here on this forum as well as Ramos & Compean fall into that last paragraph. Don't take my word for it though watch this:

Demonstration in support of Ramos and Compean

The Chicago Minuteman Project held their monthly demonstration in support of Ramos and Compean
on Dec. 13, 2008 at the Federal Building in Chicago. It was windy but not too cold and the rain held
off for the most part - just a little bit of drizzle. Project members were joined by members of the FIRE
Coalition and Minutemen Midwest.

There were literally hundreds of DHS officers in downtown Chicago - we assume because zero has a temporary office
in the area. What is interesting is that they are stopping truck traffic within a five block radius of the office of the zero.
We watched them stop rental trucks, a Coke truck and two other delivery trucks but a Post Office truck just zoomed right along.
Kind of reminded me of people having to take their shoes off at airports, Of course now journalists will have to take
their shoes off when they are in the presence of zero.

Another item of note: DHS uniforms include a U.S. Flag patch - there is no color - it is black and white.

While there, we took some pictures (several were too blurry to use- I guess my hands were too shaky)
which included one of the banners put up at the behest of the mayor of Chicago. ***MY NOTE*** There were pictures included but I was not sure they would come through.

The excuse for trying these border agents under the civil rights act was the Supreme Court decision taking away the discretion to shot a fleeing suspect if the officer is not certain the suspect had a gun -- which the border agents were honest enough to admit.

But this ruling was in answer to the wide spread practice of the era to give the police officer complete discretion to shot any fleeing suspect. Up until 1968 it was the RULE in (liberal) New York State to shot to kill EVERY fleeing suspect after firing a warning shot (saw this practice enacted recently in a 1961 episode of the Naked City TV series).

But a MEXICAN (maybe not an Irishman -- no kidding here) who abandons a van and violently assaults an officer to escape is 99.9% certain to be in fear of doing 20 years for major drug trafficking and just as certain to be carrying a gun (otherwise Mexicans, even coyotes, NEVER assault border agents -- for those from parts of the country who are not familiar).

The totality of circumstances in the border guards case is not that of a 16 year old burglary suspect climbing over a fence with his back turned as in the high court precedent. There was no question of the mortal danger for the officers here -- meaning the discretion to shot could not sensibly be denied -- meaning there was no grounds for the civil rights case.

Precedents have to evolve in accordance with circumstances. Sufficient mortal danger to the officers = discretion to use deadly force cannot be categorically denied = no excuse to bring a civil rights charge.

This whole thong to me stinks of corruption at the level of the US Attorneys office (maybe drug lords paid them off)- instead they try to portray it like the corruption is at the BPA level - and Ignacio and Jose Alonso are the patsies for a greater "mal" -
I hope that Bush can see through all this and offer them a pardon they deserve. They have paid a high enough price for their mistake. I wont quit getting the word out until they are free.

Today's headlines said that President Bush had granted more pardons, and I said quick prayer, before reading the article, hoping that Ramos and Compean would be on the list.

I am so sorry that they were not granted pardons...this seems unthinkable to leave them in jail, especially when their families are hurting and they have children.

Our country is being ransacked by illegals crossing our borders with drugs...we need to continue to beat the drum for the release of these defenders of our safety.

If you are not already getting email alerts from World Net Daily you can go to www.worldnetdaily.com

I just sent the following for just 7.95. Please do the same if you can afford it and please email everyone on your list urging them to help Ramos & Compean.
FedEx President Bush
The clock is ticking on the effort to free Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who are serving sentences of 11 and 12 years respectively for the shooting of an illegal alien drug smuggler in the line of duty.

The drug smuggler received only minor injuries and was given full immunity from prosecution by the federal prosecutor in return for his testimony against the agents. (Learn more)

President Bush leaves office January 20. Until then, he has absolute power to pardon or commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

But time is running out.

WND has organized an easy and inexpensive way for you to make your voice heard by President Bush on this matter.

At this busy time of the year, you can help restore the Ramos and Compean families by simply signing on to the following letter to President Bush. It will be sent to him—delivered to the White House by Fed Ex couriers—along with thousands of others. Imagine the message that will send!

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Bush:

I know I speak for millions of other Americans with this letter urging you to pardon or commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean - the two Border Patrol agents currently serving prison terms of 12 and 11 years respectively.

Do this, sir, as a merciful act of compassion.

Offering these two men mercy is not an admission of any wrongdoing on your part or on the part of your Justice Department.

It's just the right thing to do.

This letter is not written to reopen old wounds or renew an argument about who was right and who was wrong. It is written to heal wounds and end the arguments.

You have offered dozens of pardons already as your second term winds down. On Jan. 20, 2009, you will hand over the reins of power to a new president. But before you do that, you have absolute, unquestioned authority to make whole the lives of some hurting people. In addition, you can restore confidence in our judicial system in the minds of many Americans who can't sleep at night as they consider the suffering and anguish being experienced by the Ramos and Compean families.

I urge you to do this because the Ramos and Compean sentences are not proportionate.

I urge you to do this because you have compassion in your heart.

I urge you to do this as a way of bringing healing to our country.

I urge you to do this, most of all, for the sake of the wives and children who are punished as severely as the imprisoned agents because of their continued incarceration.

The clock is ticking.

January 20 is right around the corner.

Please find it in your heart to restore officers Ramos and Compean to their wives and children before you leave office.

Sincerely,

Your Name
Your Address

PLEASE look at what is going on here.........this has little to do with Bush, little to do with illeagals.............this has everything to do with yet another "dope dealer" bringing that junk into our country and feeding it to our kids. This is terrorism, it is destroying our country right before our eyes. But what else is going here ? Total injustice and a system that has filed yet another time. A system that seems to be..........blind stupid and without any good sense, is our justice system. How a drug dealer can come into a court room in this country with total immunity is first beyond me, what is that all about. Next how any judge or jury can find two men doing their job to protect the American people and their children from these thugs is again beyond me. How these two guys can come into a court room, be questioned and be found guility is beyond me. And finally how our highest official, President Bush, "their boss" cannot STAND UP LIKE A MAN and show the country that it is NOT OK for people to bring drugs into our country and IT IS OK for our Border Patrol Officers to protect our country with their firearms, is once again beyond me. Frankly I don't care if they wrote a report, or talked to each other about how to handle the siutuation before acting or not, if they hollered at the thug to stop or not before they shot at him, I really don't care. What I do care about is this country and the people in it.

This is one of the biggest problems facing our country. This is terrorism at its best, if you can't get us from the outside because we have our guard up and are doing a pretty good job of keeping you out, then just rot us from the inside. Send all of the illeagal drugs you can and watch from the borders as the country destroys itself from within. An implosion of great proportion. It is that easy. And all the while, getting support for your terrorism acts by the very people you are destroying. You think these guys are stupid, think again poeple. We have been outsmarted by people that are dedicated to destroy us and are doing a pretty good job of it while we put the people who are paid to protect us in jail because they were trying to stop it..............give me a break.

I know that may sound a bit overboard, but it all makse sense to me. If they can't fight us their way then all they have to appear to have joined us in the fight. Americans are so self serving that we will not be able to see the forest from the trees. Don't believe me..........take a look at our commander and chief, if that isn't a blind eye then what is?

With this in your memory, if you were a Border Patrol Officer, would you shoot at somebody bringing illeagal drugs into the country ? What about illeagal guns or explosives, what would you do then ? I would say if your answer to that question is yes then you are a great American that is not afraid to put your butt on the line for your country knowing that it could take your own life away from you and your family to do it. Maybe by a gun shot or by spending the rest of your life, or a good portion of it, in a prison with the very guys you have been trying to protect your country from. If you think the only war we are involved in is Iraq and Afganistan you really need to look at the downtown streets of any major city in this country.

I'd like to think I would do what I could to protect this country, but until I was faced with what these two guys were faced with I wouldn't have a prayer of how I would handle it. Perhaps the best thing to do is just sit in the car and stay out of the eye shot of the bad guys, then call the local police and tell them that there was another shipment coming in so their jobs were safe and secure. Not to worry, they will have plenty to do to protect the people. BUT watchout, don't make any unecessary moves, you could land your butt in jail along side or of the Border Patrol guys if your weren't careful.

WAKE UP AMERICA ! PLEASE WAKE UP ! Write a letter to, I am embarrased to say, our President. Tell him what an injustice has been done here, these two guys should get a ticker tape parade in New York City, not jail time. Maybe a letter to 60 Minutes could help too, they seem to get things done much quicker.

Ramos and Compean are GOOD men who were FRAMED for DOING their job as AMERICAN lawmen. The drug runner Aldrete-Davila is the REAL cause of this outrage. If Aldrete-Davila had NOT been attempting to SMUGGLE drugs into OUR country in the FIRST place, then the Ramos-Compean tragedy would NEVER have happened!

Ken Prescott said...

Ramos and Compean are GOOD men who were FRAMED for DOING their job as AMERICAN lawmen.

I was not aware that "doing their job as AMERICAN lawmen" including submitting false reports, destroying evidence, and botching the chain of custody so thoroughly that the drugs found in the van could not be legally tied to Aldrete-Davila beyond reasonable doubt.

The drug runner Aldrete-Davila is the REAL cause of this outrage.

You seem to be saying that Aldrete-Davila somehow forced Ramos and Compean to submit false reports, destroy evidence, and botch the chain of custody on the van and its contents. Could you explain that, please?

joe loya said...

Ramos and Compean never lied, never covered up, never submitted false reports nor did they destroy evidence. If the drugs could not legally be tied to Alderete Davila then how come he was immediately given immunity from prosecution, free medical treatment at the Army Hospital in El Paso, and an unsupervised crossing card to and from Mexico in exchange for his lies on the stand. The government has admitted that he committed perjury. Ramos and Compean were never accused of lying or covering up during the 12 day trial. The three agents that actually lied and covered up were given immunity from prosecution just like the admitted, illegal alien, drug smuggler in exchange for their testimony. They testified under the threat of indictment. Those three were the ones that submitted false reports and commited perjury. One of the those three was born and raised in Mexico and quit the border patrol one year after the trial. He could easily have gone to prison for aggravated perjury. You wanna know more. Go to "agentramos.com" Show me where they lied and covered up. Show me where they submitte false reports. Read the transcripts.

President Pardons Scores of Convicted Criminals, But Not Border Patrol Agents

ALERT: What do drug dealers, carjackers, moonshiners, embezzlers, bootleggers, tax evaders, counterfeiters, union bombers, army deserters, bank robbers, and arsonists have in common?

They've ALL been pardoned by President George W. Bush, under the authority granted to him in Article II, Section 2, of the U.S. Constitution.

BUT... he still refuses to pardon two wrongly convicted Border Patrol heroes, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean!

The list of people that Bush has pardoned as president is daunting, and full of almost every manner of criminal imaginable. I've only mentioned a very few of them -- there's actually nearly 200 people that he's granted full pardons to...

But NOT Agents Ramos and Compean!

Even with the mountain of evidence that these two innocent Border Patrol agents were wrongfully convicted, President Bush isn't going to give them the full pardon that they deserve before he leaves office -- unless WE, the people, demand that it happen!

As Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) has noted, "Unjustly convicted Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are currently serving 11- and 12-year prison terms, respectively, for shooting and wounding an admitted illegal alien drug smuggler whom they interdicted while he was smuggling $1 million worth of drugs into the United States. Inexplicably, Western district of Texas U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton took the word of the drug smuggler and decided to throw the book at the Border Patrol agents, turning procedural mistakes into felonies."

President Bush has openly stated to the media that he's "not going to promise" to issue a pardon for Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean, who were wrongly convicted simply because they were actually doing their jobs protecting our borders from illegal aliens and drug smugglers.

You know that there is something SERIOUSLY WRONG with our "justice" system when a Mexican drug smuggler is given immunity from prosecution for trying to smuggle drugs the day he was shot -- and is then arrested AGAIN for smuggling MORE drugs!

Border Patrol agents have a difficult and often dangerous job in guarding our nation's borders. But the danger shouldn't come from our own government!

CLICK HERE TO SEND A PERSONALIZED FEDERAL EXPRESS LETTER TO PRESIDENT BUSH, DEMANDING HE PARDON RAMOS & COMPEAN:

https://secure.conservativedonations.com/agents/?a=2012

According to news reports, in 2005, agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean spotted Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila, a Mexican national, in his van near the Rio Grande, near Fabens, Texas, about 30 miles southeast of El Paso. Ramos gave chase while Compean circled around to head off the suspect. When Mr. Aldrete-Davila jumped out of the van and ran south to the river, he was confronted by Compean, who was thrown to the ground as the two men fought. Ramos said that when he arrived, he saw Compean on the ground and chased Mr. Aldrete-Davila to the river, where the suspect suddenly turned toward him, pointing what looked like a gun.

Ramos said he fired at the fleeing suspect but did not think he had been hit after watching him run through the bush, jump into an awaiting van in Mexico and speed off. Nearly 800 pounds of marijuana, worth $1 million, was found in the van that he abandoned at the river's edge.

A job well done, right? After all, that's what the Border Patrol is supposed to do -- try and stop illegal immigrants, especially the "baddies" running drugs. Right?

Wrong.

An investigator from the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General, which oversees the Border Patrol, tracked down Mr. Aldrete-Davila in Mexico, where he was offered IMMUNITY in exchange for testifying AGAINST the agents!

As a result, a federal jury convicted agents Ramos and Compean of causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and a civil rights violation. After a two-week trial last year, the two were convicted by a jury on 11 out of 12 counts; they began their sentences of 11 and 12 years' imprisonment, respectively, in January. (Three of the jurors said afterwards they were inclined to deliver a not guilty verdict but had been told by the jury foreman that the judge wanted them to "go along with majority.")

To add insult to injury -- OUR injury -- Aldrete-Davila, the illegal alien drug-runner, also received care at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. Last month, he was arrested AGAIN for smuggling drugs into the country -- but that hasn't stopped him from suing the government for $5 million for violating his "civil rights"!

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. As patriotic Americans, we MUST do something about this!

CLICK HERE TO SEND A PERSONALIZED FEDERAL EXPRESS LETTER TO PRESIDENT BUSH, DEMANDING HE PARDON RAMOS & COMPEAN:

https://secure.conservativedonations.com/agents/?a=2012

President Bush has pardoned over 170 people, including a member of the mineworkers union who was convicted for his role in bombings at a West Virginia coal mine, a counterfeiter, a man sentenced for unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm, and a bootlegger. They're all now free men.

But for agents Ramos and Compean, that's not going to happen -- unless WE, the people, demand that it happen!

The facts in this case do NOT add up or justify the length of the sentences for these agents, let alone their conviction on multiple counts. The arrest, trial and conviction of the two Border Patrol agents had resulted in a chilling effect on others.

These men have been given the equivalent of a murder sentence -- in fact, they were given MORE time than the average convicted murderer. Even if you accept every fact exactly as stated by the prosecuting attorney, the verdict handed out was an extreme injustice.

The questions surrounding this outrageous prosecution are many and the answers from the Bush Administration are few. For several years, members of Congress have repeatedly called on the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security to review the troubling aspects of this case -- only to have those concerns dismissed with simple form letters. Congressmen have publicly pleaded with the President to pardon the agents, and his only response has been to reaffirm his relationship with his "dear friend" Johnny Sutton.

In 2006, 53 Members of Congress sent a letter to President Bush's nominee to be attorney general, Michael Mukasey, reiterating their desire for a fair and unbiased review of the Ramos and Compean prosecution. Given the close personal relationships among the prosecuting U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, former Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales and President Bush, past requests for such a review have been ignored -- and this one was no different

Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-MA), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on international organizations, human rights and oversight, even introduced a bipartisan resolution calling on Mr. Bush to immediately commute the sentences of these two U.S. Border Patrol agents who shot and wounded the fleeing drug suspect. A growing number of Congressmen AND U.S. citizens are asking President Bush to issue a presidential pardon to them. But it won't happen without a HUGE public outcry -- and that's where YOU AND I come in.

When he came to office eight years ago, he wrapped himself in the theme of "compassionate conservatism" -- now is the time for him to PROVE it. He needs to do the right thing, and issue pardons for Agents Ramos and Compean. Click below NOW to send a personalized Federal Express letter to President Bush, demanding he pardon Ramos & Compean:

Ken I have read and comprehended all of the trial transscripts as have many Congressional Leaders who believe as I do.

I'm not going to argue with you my time is more valuble than that.

I will say this: If your only reason for posting on this blog is to try to convince anyone of the veracity of your beliefs, you have come to the wrong place.

You can take your liberal socialistict BS somewhere else.

I am America "OLD SCHOOL". In my opinion Ramos and Compean deserve a medal of Valor and a raise in paycheck.

The drug smuggler should have been tried (he was) found guilty (he was ) but instead of prison he should have been escourted back to the border and been hung from the neck till he was dead. Then his body should have been left there as a reminder to the rest of the smugglers.

It's time we put some BITE back into our court system. It's time for these judges and prosecuters who think criminals deserve a second chance to live in my world, not the protected gated, security surrounded bubble they live in.

I believe our prisons should be teaching criminals by hard labor and stiff sentences "We let you pay for this sentence and live, if you do not learn and return to society as a productive law abiding individual it's your choice."

Next time you are brought up for charges and convicted you die.

I have had the sad opportunity to meet true bad cops, rougues who think their badge gives them the right to do anything they want to the public they are supposed to be serving.

Those cops ended up being fired everyone of them.

I have the utmost repect for the laws of our land and those who enforce it as it is intended to be. It takes GUTS to do their job and to do it with great morality.

Border Patrol Agents and Border states Police officers are under attack by ruthless, no holds barred criminals. The drug cartels offer big money to them if they will just keep their mouths shut or kill them if they won't.

We as a country need to declare an all out war on these sumbags, but we sure as hell can't do it when our own prosecuters and judges are corrupt.

Johnny Sutton can continue to say he was justly doing his job til pigs fly. What he and a lot of other prosecuters like him are doing to not only police officers but citizens as well is simply political. They do not care if the person being prosecuted is innocent all they are interested in is PUBLICITY and moving on up the corrupt political ladder.

If Sutton and team had been concerned with JUSTICE they would have let all information reach the juries ears so that the jury could have made a decision based on ALL the facts.

Every day in America innocent people cops and citizens are judged in a court of law. A system that has become corrupt. A system where you are guilty until proven innocent.

That is NOT the way our legal system is supposed to work.

Are you equally as American "OLD SCHOOL" when it comes to, say, the Weaver case? Do you defend the actions of Lon Horiuchi with the same zeal as you do the actions of Ramos and Compean?

If not . . . why not?

Vicki said...

Ken I do not know this case as well as I do the Ramos and Compean case.

I just did a few minutes of research on the web. First on Lon Huriuchi then on The Weavers.

I will answer your question as well as possible. This case is as far as I am concerned one of government over reaction.

Before Huriuchi was brought in, gunfire had already taken the lives of a government agent Deagle I think his name was. Deagle found himself behind a rock and a hard place and jumped up gun pointed at Kevin Harris and Sam Weaver (14 years old)both of them armed. Kevin and Deagle shot at each other. Then Kevin and Sam turned to run back to the house, at about the same time this happened Sam heard his dog Striker yelp Sam ran to his dog realized he was dead and screamed "you son of a bitch you shot my dog" and Sam fired on the man. Sam then turned and began running to the house and was shot in the back. It killed him.

The family retrieved Sams body and placed him in a building on the property.

Here is my opinion on the ordeal up to this point.

The government had NO business coming down on this family.

Even though at a meeting attended by the Weaver family of a white supremisist gathering a government informant who was doing this to get himself out of jail, approached Randy Weaver and talked Randy into selling two short-barreled shotguns. This was done by the government to "get Randy" on an illegal weapons charge.

According to Randy he felt uneasy and that he might well be heading for a set up, he delivered the two shot guns in their original state (not sawed off). The government then came out of hiding and arrested Randy. He bonded out and got notice that he was to appear in court in March he fully intended to go to this court.

Then the story gets even more twisted. Randy got the notice to appear in March, but the paperwork held by the government said the court date was in February. So when Randy did not show up a warrant was issued for his arrest. The government claims "this was a simple clerical error".

I do not believe that for one second. The government was out to get Randy and his family. Why ?? As far as I know they did nothing illegal.

Even though Randy and family were associating with Arryan white supremisit's and had evidently come to believe in the groups ideas. That is not illegal.

I despise racisim !!! But here in America people have the right to believe what they choose and do what they choose as long as it harms no one.

Now back to the rest of the story.

After Deagle's fire hit Kevin and Kevin supposedly shot and killed Deagle. Now there are some who believe that Deagle was set up by one of his own and was killed by one of them.

The truth of that I don't know but in this corrupt world we live in it would not surprise me that Deagle was killed by one of his own for who knows what reason.

So Deagle is dead, Kevin is hit, Striker is dead, Sam is dead. The government flys in some more troops among them Lou Huruchi. Randy and Kevin and Vicki decide to go out to the building where Sams body was, so that they could pray and determine where and how to bury him.

Hurichi either took it upon himself or was ordered to fire upon the group. This guy was a crack shot sniper said to be able to hit a quarter at 600 yards. He was much, much closer than that when he opened fire. He hit Randy in the arm ? Why didn't he aim for the head ?

Randy, Kevin & Vicki ran back to the house under fire from Lon H. Vicki may have been in the house all along I don't recall. At any rate Randy and Kevin ran to the door which Vicki was holding open (the gov. said L.H. did not know Vicki was behind the door) So while L.H. was firing a bullet went through the door blowing away half of Vickis face missing her infant daughter, but killing Vicki.

The Weavers had every right to arm themselves and protect their person and property. I do not believe they did anything wrong.

Lon opened fire either on command or on his own. I believe he did it under orders. Either way he was wrong to do so.

The guy who shot Striker and Sam is just as bad.

The government officials who were calling the shots should have been prosecuted. They declared war on an innocent family, legal citizens of the USA.

The Ramos and Compean situation was no where near being compared to the Weavers.

Ramos and Compean were doing their job. Compean struggled with Davila shots were fired, Ramos arrived not knowing if Compean was injured or dead. Ramos in going to the aid of his fellow officer saw Davila turn sideways toward him Davilia had his arm pointing at Ramos. Ramos saw something shiny in Davilias hand Ramos fired at Davilia and Davilia took off running.

Ramos and Compean were doing thier jobs and this guy turns and points with something shiny at Ramos ??? What would you do Ken ? I know what I would have done in Ramos shoes I would have shot the guy with NO hesitation, preferably a kill shot because how was I to know some of Davilias buddies might be fixing to come out of the wood work.

It is VERY clear to me who the good guys are here Ramos & Compean.

If I'm a cop in hot pursuit of a criminal and that criminal turns towards me with something shiny in his hand pointing it at me I have split second decision me or him. It'll be the criminal every time.

If I find myself as a citizen faced with some one pointing what I assume to be a weapon gun or knife at me I'm not going to stand there wondering if I'm fixing to be attacked I'm going to defend myself with whatever is handy, and when I defend myself I will do my best to kill the sob.

Does that answer your question ?

Here is another example of a police officer being persecuted for doing his job.

The list is LONG all over the USA !!

What would you have these police offcers do in this situation ?

The criminals made another touchdown here.

I say give them 60 days of intense counsel from a Minister give 'em a chance to get right with God. Then take them back to the parking lot where this happened and hang them in front of all their buddies.

On December 9, 2005, a seven-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department and a former Marine who served in Iraq, was unjustly indicted for crimes. Officer Raymond S. Bund has served his community and country with a clean record for years. He now needs your support. Bunn is married with five children and cannot risk being sent to prison for crimes that he did not commit.

In 2002, Bunn fired two shots at a Chevy Tahoe SUV that was trying to run him down in a parking lot. Corey Ward, the driver was hit once and died instantly. Bunn is being charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and violation of oath. Bunn was only trying to defend himself and his fellow officer.

Officer Raymond Bunn and Officer Terry Mulkey were patrolling a tough nightclub area in Atlanta know as “Buckhead”. The bars in this area are open until 4 a.m., and the area experiences many burglaries, car thefts, break-ins, shootings and riotous drunken behavior.

Officer Mulkey was driving and unmarked police car while Officer Bunn was sitting in the passenger seat. They went into a parking lot and observed several vehicles at the back of the lot. They two officers then heard the breaking of car window and then an alarm go off.

Suspecting a car theft was in progress, the two officers parked the car and before getting out, they made sure that their flashing blue lights were on in the rear and front of their vehicle to identify themselves as police officers. The two officers were wearing pullover shirts with the words “Atlanta Police” in bold on the front and the back. Also, they were both wearing chains around their necks that secured their Atlanta Police badges.

A black male, Jamal Smith, was then seen jumping through the shattered window of a Buick Grand National SUV. Bunn and Mulkey got out of their police car, and shouted “police, police stop” as Smith then proceeded to jump out of the Buick and then into the back of a Chevy Tahoe SUV.

Driving the Chevy Tahoe SUV was Corey Ward. The two police officers stood about 25 feet in front of the vehicle, their weapons drawn, and again shouted, “Police stop, Police stop”.

Bunn and Mulkey then started to approach the vehicle. Corey Ward put the car into reverse, came to an abrupt stop and the two officers came closer. Ward then punched the gas pedal and came speeding towards the officers. The officer’s vehicle was sitting at a right angle with its front facing the Chevy Tahoe. The Chevy Tahoe was bearing straight down at the front right side of the cruiser. Officer Mulkey was on the driver’s side and escaped to a position on the left front of the driver’s side.

Officer Bunn was trapped between the front right side of the cruiser and the approaching Chevy Tahoe. When the SUV was about 6-8 feet away, Bunn jumped out of the way and in self defense, fired his service revolver at the driver. Bunn was seriously injured when his knee was caught between the left front on the SUV and the right front of the cruiser. Corey Ward was hit in the head by one bullet and died instantly.

Officer Mulkey confirmed that Officer Bunn fired his weapon before being hit by the Chevy Tahoe. The two officers stories were identical to one another. They both believe that their lives were in danger.

Officer Bunn was indicted on December 9, 2005 by a Fulton County grand jury. Manny Arora of the firm Garland Samuel and Loeb represents Officer Bunn.

LELDF supports Bunn and wants to help in any way we can. We believe that he has been wrongly accused of these crimes.

LELDF is the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund. Our organization’s main focus is to assist law enforcement officers when it is necessary for them to defend actions taken in the line of duty to enforce the law.

The two officers clearly identified themselves as police officers. The two other occupants in the car, Jamal Smith and Rodriguez Brown say that they heard the officers identify themselves, saw their badges and saw the flashing police lights in the cruiser.

Corey Ward had over two ounces of cocaine in his pocket and a large knife was between the driver and passenger seats. There were also seven bags of marijuana discovered in the car along with two stolen cell phones, one from that same parking lot.

It is reasonable to conclude that Ward feared being caught with the cocaine and deliberately chose to go at the officers in an attempt to run them down and escape. There was plenty of room for Ward to drive out of the parking lot and avoid the officers.

A study of the incident showed that the car was traveling 26 MPH 5 seconds before the crash and at 14 MPH one second before the impact with Officer Bunn and the police cruiser. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) made an analysis of the trajectory of the bullets. The GBI determined that the distance between Officer Bunn and the Chevy Tahoe was less than five feet when the shots were fired.

The regulation in effect for use of force in July 2002 for the Atlanta P.D. provided that “an employee shall only use necessary force against another person to effect an arrest, prevent an escape…or defend himself or another from physical assault.”

Officer Bunn was not breaking any rules of the Atlanta P.D. Corey Ward was using the vehicle as a dangerous weapon against the two officers.

Bunn was only trying to defend himself and Officer Mulkey the way he was taught how. He was also trying to protect the public from these three men who could have been dangerous if they had gotten away.

The two officers truly believed that they were in imminent danger and Bunn acted in the best interest of himself and the public. Any officer would not have reacted differently if a suspect was pointing a firearm at them. A Chevy Tahoe at 25 MPH is deadly.

Officer Bunn has an excellent record. He does not deserve to be put through this while he has a wife and five children waiting at home.

Raymond Bunn is a police officer and a veteran who has served his community and country for over seven years. He needs to know that we appreciate his hard work and sacrifices.

Officer Bunn put his life on the line to protect his community. We need to show him that we support his efforts.

LELDF is asking you to please help support Officer Bunn by giving a gift of $25, $50, or any amount that you can afford. This gift of any amount is tax deductible.

Any donation that you give will have a great impact on the lives of Officer Bunn and his family.

Many thanks you for your support.

Sincerely,

David H. Martin

Vicki, that's their SECOND version of events.

Do you routinely believe someone's SECOND version of events after their FIRST version has been demonstrated to be false?

I never do, absent other circumstantial evidence that supports the second version of events.

Oh, wait, that's right--Ramos and Compean went out of their way to eliminate the circumstantial evidence . . . so what am I left with to judge the veracity of their new story?

Ken
I am not arguing with you about this anymore.

We will simply have to agree to dissagree on this entire subject.

Would you rather that the drug smuggler Osvaldo Adlrete Davila had been able to get accross the border with his van full of recreational drugs?

I would rather that Aldrete-Davila had been properly arrested and the drugs in the van conclusively tied to him in a court of law.

But Ramos and Compean managed to screw that one up beyond repair--they didn't leave anybody behind to secure the freakin' van while they chased the smuggler on foot! Can you say "chain of custody?"

Do you want those drugs available to your children? Our nations's children?Do you have a dog in this fight?

Yes, I have a dog in this fight. I have a daughter. No, I do not want her using drugs. I also spent eight years in the United States Marine Corps, upholding and defending the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I want my daughter to live in a country where the government is our servant, not our master.

What are you, a druggie?

No, I am not a druggie. Never used drugs, never participated in the drug trade in any fashion. However, I must confess that your last statement is predictably lame.

Another blow to the Nacho Ramos family happened the evening of 1/5/09.

Upon returning to the house with her 3 boys, her eldest son opened the front door. He was immediately hit with the smell a large amount of gas in the air, he yelled to his mom, she told him not to turn the light on. Monica safely removed her children from the area.

It is then she found her home had been broken into! Computer equipment destroyed, couches and chairs slashed, cherished wedding pictures, pictures of her life with Nacho and their children were ripped off the walls, shelves and slammed to the ground. DVDs & player taken, and the entire house ransacked! They even beat her dogs!

Thank God no one turned on a light! Monica and her three boys would be gone!!!

One has to ask, is this case related??? Is Monica getting to close to exposing the truth in this outrageous injustice to her husband and Jose Compean???

My God how much more must these families endure! These men should be home protecting their families, just as they tried to protect our Country!!!

Talk about CRUEL & UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT, Just how will Nacho even shut his eyes knowing someone attempted to blow up his family!

We must be relentless demanding The President commute the sentences of these men, return them to their families and their jobs.

Obama's ICE candidate pleads for agents' pardon‏

Alert: Upon hearing that he was one of Barack Obama's candidates to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement, one federal investigative official's first act was to write an urgent letter to President George W. Bush – insisting that he pardon former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. Rev. Miguel Contreras, 53, has worked for ICE, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the former Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He is vice president of Christian Alliance Ministries Worldwide and department head of Christian counseling and social work at Northwestern Theological Seminary.

Last month, Contreras announced Obama's transition team told him he was a candidate for assistant secretary of ICE. It was then that he decided to write a letter on behalf of the imprisoned agents, the El Paso Times reported. He asked the president to pardon them or reduce their sentences. "I reviewed everything I could find related to their cases, and based on my extensive experience, Compean and Ramos should be released and reinstated to their former jobs," he told the Times. "I have not received a response."

"I don't know Miguel Contreras, but I am thankful, because every little bit helps," Joe Loya, Ramos' father-in-law, told the Times. "We understand more pardons and commutations are coming down Jan. 15, and we are praying Compean and Ramos are included." While in office, the president has pardoned or commuted sentences for at least 36 drug dealers, 12 thieves, seven embezzlers, an arsonist, an armed bank robber and an illegal-alien smuggler – but there has been no word on Ramos and Compean. However, Bush has until Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20 to issue his final pardons and commutations before he leaves office. (WND.com)
